  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves completing audit work on various accounts which includes managing my time to ensure the work is completed by the deadline. This also involves managing the clients time to ensure they provide the deliverables in time for us to complete the work. To do this, we need to make sure that we communicate effectively to ensure the deadlines are clear.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My role, on a day to day basis, involves working as a team to complete the audit by the deadline. This means that I need to make it known to the team if I have any capacity to help someone else out. From this, I have been able to improve my teamwork skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme based on the skills and experience I am gaining at a young age, having just left school. Sometimes I find that it is a lot of pressure for our age group but it is proving beneficial and improving my skills in and out of work. I am glad I decided to take this route when I left school.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the programme could be more organised in that we have a clearer vision of our exam pathway, what we would be expected to know at each level etc. However, when it comes to support I feel we always have someone to approach if we have any questions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have had a positive experience when it comes to support due to having a good relationship with my counsellor from when I joined. I have also been lucky with my teams as they have all been very supportive and offered guidance not only on audit work but also exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan have definitely been very helpful as they stay in contact even when we still have a few months until our exams to ensure we are aware of the available support. Also, I find that they are very helpful in college and offering extra support after lessons, during breaks etc.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the stage I am currently at in my qualification, I do not feel my studies have been as beneficial in my role as I have only taken Accounting and Assurance so far however I am aware that the exams I am due to take this year will apply a lot more to my day to day role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are a number of sport teams available to join who have regular training sessions and in a league to compete. Also, audit teams tend to have socials at the end of the audit. This allows us to communicate with colleagues outside of work which also helps us to build a better working relationship with them making work a lot more fun.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY to a friend due to the opportunities it offers and the fast track in a career you want. Also, the give you a lot of responsibility for your age/level which helps you gain experience in dealing well under pressure and this is something a lot of employers look for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • If I were to give advice to someone applying to a job at EY, I would tell them to make sure to read up on the job they are applying for to make sure it is the right one for them due to there being so many different roles within EY. I would also make sure they research what happens during the application process to ensure they are prepared.
