  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I travel to client sites and help audit companies accounts. My place of work varies depending on what client I am booked to work on. I work on easier accounts as I am still training, such as cash or creditors and debtors. Whenever I need help I can ask anyone I am working with.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt new skills, everyday I learn something new as I when you work on different clients things are done slightly differently. After my first week of college I learnt a lot as this was necessary for my accounting exam, however this was a lot of new information in a very short amount of time. I now know lots more about accounting than I did before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme but at the moment it is still very new and sometimes struggle with certain tasks which I don't understanding which can sometimes be upsetting. I enjoy working with different teams and interacting with new people. My colleagues are all very friendly and ready to help which makes the experience more enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very organised when applying for the role. However after the recruitment process I feel like there isn't many people in the office who know much about the programme, most things that I have learnt or have been told I need to complete are from school leavers who have been in the programme already for a few years. So this can be frustrating as I feel there isn't really any seniors who know completely about the programme, how it works and what I need to do. But I am yet to take my first exam so I things may be more organised in that aspect.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer supports me a lot, there are always people around to help coach me when I need help day to day. They are always willing to help with any questions I have aswell whether to do with exam queries when I'm revising. I haven't taken an exam yet so I cant wait to see how they support me closer to the date.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provide are good with classes to teach me the syllabus that I require in order to pass my exams. They provide all the necessary materials like a text book a question practise book and a workbook. They also have online material that provide me with mock exams so I can revise effectively. I have only been to college once and haven't experienced the full support that they offer.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification teaches me all the knowledge that I need to know for the basis of my day to day job. Without that understanding I would be very confused and struggle to complete my work. They teach me important facts like the accounting equation and double entry which my colleagues often reduce work to, so is vital in my work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extra curricular activities to get involved in like the football team. Also there are family days every quarter with an activity after which you can take part in, so far I have been iceskating and have a cooking class coming up after our next family day. Us school leavers will also sometimes arrange an evening after work like dinner and bowling which are always fun.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As it is a really friendly place to work, and if you want to get into audit it is a great place to immerse yourself in the work and receive the help you need, and qualify with one of the big four. It is a good alternative to university if you want to get into the world of auditing and start earning.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Just show them the best you, be interactive and engaging, show them how much you want the job and that you want to learn. Show them you're hardworking. Check your emails as they give deadlines to tasks when applying, meet any deadlines and don't be late submitting anything. If they give a test of some sort try and find mock examples online in order to practise, and pass your A levels.
