  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting in September 2018 my knowledge in accounting and skills I have gained have been great. From having virtually no experience or prior knowledge of accounting, I have learnt a lot. • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme, but it is definitely challenging. However, I expected this when I started, I would say for anyone with intentions of joining that they must be driven and have determination. The hours can be long but having that drive will get you through till the end.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I'd say my programme is very structured, there is a clear role status between all colleagues. As there is a large in take we have 'year groups' which allows and provides for useful structure. Furthermore, we have a set 'timetable' of clients which is provided for months and months in advance. Our college and exam timetable is also provided for in advance.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have 'buddys' who are from the year above us to be there on 'standby' for any questions who I now see as a friend. We also have an assigned 'councillor' who is there for every step of our journey and is available for support in all situations. With all colleagues I have worked with I feel I have been supported.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan are very efficient in terms of their work resources, teaching and contactability. I feel I am supported and say they are there whenever you have questions or needs regarding the exams and general college experience. I feel I can approach them whenever I need to and am happy there.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have only been to college for one exam which I am yet to take, however I would say that they both help each other. For example, we went to college before we started our job and out of context the material was quite hard to understand grasp. However, now I have been in the job for 7 months I have more understanding and clarity of the course content as it puts it into context.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extensive networks within EY, we have sports teams, frequent socials and more. Personally, I have volunteered to help with our Smart Futures Programme which focuses on bringing in children who are less privileged to complete paid work experience with us. By doing so, we help that this may encourage them to join our School Leaver Programme.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • If I had a friend who I knew was interested in a career in the Finance/Accounting field I would recommended EY to them. Despite being challenging I feel I have furthered my knowledge greatly in the past 7 months. In particular, the School Leaver Programme I would recommend as an alternate to university as it's a great option for those who want to earn and learn.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Do your research- know what you're getting yourself in for. Make sure that you really want to do this over university as it can be hard seeing your friends at uni whilst you're doing long working weeks. However, seek this opportunity and make the most of your 'EY' experience - whether it is successful or not
