Multiskilled engineer apprentice Review

My role as a multiskilled engineer apprentice involves me training and working in all aspects of multiskilled. These include; mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. I train so that I will be able to confidently attend breakdowns and repair machines or create solutions with as little loss to production as possible.

Prior to this course i completed a 2 year course at Lincoln college which was a 'BTEC level three extended diploma in electrical and electronic engineering'. So I already had a fair bit of engineering knowledge, however it was all theory, so since starting my apprenticeship I have greatly improved with my hand skills with tools.

I enjoy it significantly, I enjoy it more than I thought I would and I can see my progression and opportunities to progress more than I thought I would. I presumed upon starting at Tulip that I would I be very stressed and bossed around, however, the support and encouragement has been phenomenol.

It has a very clear and admirable structure. I understand that it has taken a couple of years to perfect the stricture and what subjects of learning happen in each block. I find that the structure is easy to follow and calm as long as I stay focused and committed.

Absolutely massive amount of support. In terms of funding their isn't many employers in the UK that match Tulip. When I'm away at college everything is paid for me, accommodation, travel, food. And at work I receive positive and non-judgemental guidance, making it a lot easier to ask questions.

Again, a massive amount. They keep track of everything I do at college and will take any measures to ensure I complete the course to the standard that I want to. At work they also make sure I don't fall behind, ensuring I do write ups of jobs I've completed at work.

Very well. Nowadays most employers are looking for multiskilled engineers and not single skilled engineers, so the subjects I learn at college directly relate and transfer to the workplace, I've already used examples of both practical and theory work that I learned at college back in my work place.

Yes, the ambassador programme. Its a programme for apprentices that allows them to represent their department, their site and themselves. They can travel to events around all the sites in the UK and advertise and promote their roles and their site. It's something I'm really looking at applying for.

I did work experience at tulip 2 years before joining as an apprentice, and I liked it so much that I applied for the apprenticeship role. It is very well paying, it provides you with a trade that sets you up for life and provides all the training all for free.

I'd say research the company, look at all the opportunities it offers and the programmes it has with the community. Don't be scared of the bosses, I was worried at first that it would all be very serious and strict, but my engineers at my site, including my manager, are all fun and friendly people. There will always be people WANTING to support you.
