  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Meet with fellow engineers at the start of the day and organise a plan of what needs to be accomplished. Depending on the job, I will then shadow an experienced engineer for the day learning the correct way to deal with breakdowns and planned maintenance in a safe and efficient way

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying the learning environment and working with people from different sites within the tulip group. The downside to the apprenticeship is the long travel from Cornwall to Birmingham for the 6 week learning block, but the qualification will be worth the small sacrifice at the end of the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme seems to be quite well organised as this type of programme in the college is still relatively new. There are occasions when things don't seem as organised as they should be, but I think that these things will improve in the years to come but so far so good

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer allows time for college work in the working day when back on site, they also hire a car for the travelling as well as fuel costs covered, a hotel room is proved with a food allowance for breakfast and the evening meal, no complaints with this service. Excellent

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All of the tutors seem very helpful and are always available if there are any questions, where this be through email or face to face conversation. Learning material is shared on one drive and this allows the apprentice to learn from home or at work ensuring that work can be completed even when not attending college.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This qualification will allow me to gain the knowledge in both mechanical and electrical skills that I then be able to use in the working environment to assist others in completion of breakdowns more efficient and affectively. I will also gain the confidence to assist others that may not have the experience that I have gained.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My work doesn't have any extra curricular activities as such but we do enjoy meeting out of work for birthdays and Christmas occasions, the factory environment is not always the easiest to arrange social events due to the large variety of people and different family environment that everyone has.

  • Tulip is a good local employer and provides good rates of pay for a wide selection of skills, a lot of people complain about tulip but when have looked for other jobs have seen that tulip are not as bad as they thought and that there are a lot worse company's to work for.
