  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Marketing Department in the Insights Team. This involves working with stakeholders to find out what are the key priorities for the business, both within and external to Marketing, and how we can support them via the production of insights around competitors, the overall market and customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have done a number of learning and development activities during my time at E.ON. These have ranged from internal and external training courses, to webinars, brown bag lunches, and talent events. A lot of this focuses around 'soft' skills; there has not been as much need to do technical courses for my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have only just started the apprenticeship qualification in January 2019! Therefore we have only had one workshop and piece of work set thus far. I enjoyed the workshop and felt it was interactive, although there is currently a delay in finding out who our tutors are and when we'll meet them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As per my previous answer, there is some structure to the programme in that we have a monthly workshop. However, all the pre-work needed by the college was not communicated to us at the start; nor the requirement for 20% off the job training. We still have not been told who our tutors are and what other work we'll need to do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The L&D team has an Apprenticeship lead, who does all of the co-ordination. We can also email the workshop trainer with questions. I think the general attitude of support depends on your line manager and the work pressures/deadlines in our day to day role. It will be better when we have a tutor.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We will have a tutor who we meet with monthly, but as yet we don't know who they are, so it's a bit hard to say at present! The workshop trainer was very approachable, despite being very new to the college, and has answered a number of my questions via email.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is on leadership, which is supported via the talent programme at E.ON. It is great that E.ON is offering this to future leaders, and shows their support to us as the next generation! It is practical and focuses on the skills that a leader needs to do their role effectively.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Through the talent scheme, there are opportunities for networking events. E.ON is also very keen for employees to volunteer to help local communities; these tend to be set up by individual teams and are run as away days. We have a social intranet where anyone can set up a community, not just about work!

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • E.ON is a very friendly company to work for, and supports its employees well. Being part of a multinational company also means there is scope to work in other countries. Offering these new apprenticeship qualifications is a great way of investing in staff and I hope they role out more in the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • Make sure you know what appeals to you about the company and the industry, and what is happening in the market at the moment (as there is a lot of change!). Also know yourself, so that you can play to your strengths and demonstrate awareness of your weaknesses (EQ rather than IQ).
