  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role on a daily basis involves assisting a large scale programme which rolls out an end-to-end technology solution for a client in the banking sector. My tasks involve helping out senior members of the team with data sourcing which involves identifying sources of where the data can come from and some pmo tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learned how to use various software such as SQL, Teradata and we use excel extensively, which I had experience in using from the past however I feel like my knowledge of it improved massively. I also learned how to manage the key stakeholders on the project as well as deliver on time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy the programme and I feel like it has great benefits such as a sponsored degree at the BPP university. It can be hard to juggle work and studies at the same time however, it also teaches you how to prioritise different tasks and manage thing in stressful situations.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like there is a pretty clear structure to the pogramme which was delivered to us as apprentices concisely, however, there has been a number of changes made to the programme since we have started, which is understandable, however it can become confusing, for instance our programme shortened down and we weren't sure how or why.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support from our employer, starting from managers who we work with on our project and people who deal with the BPP university directly. I personally have a number of mentors within the organisation who are always keen to help out with advice if I am struggling in work or studies.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have a dedicated person who you can email directly and she has been great at resolving all queries. I personally have never had actual issues therefore I am not sure how helpful they are with things like resits, but I am sure since there is a chance for a resit they try to be as helpful as possible.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it is very important to have a degree as it teaches you how to be a well rounded person in general and how to act and communicate professionally. It also has taught me specific skills that I can apply in my day to day job such as SQL or Python.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a dedicated corporate responsibility team within our organisation and there are always opportunities to volunteer in the local community. My team also does regular volunteering at various social events such as helping out young people with their CVs. We also have a number of interest groups such as the LGBT community.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel like it is a great place to start your career and learn new skills. It is also a great place to make networks and get a lot of exposure to the client work and have direct interactions with the client quite early on in your career. It can also team you how to act and behave professionally.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • I would say that with the easiest parts such as submitting your cv and cover letter make sure there are no spelling mistakes and with the cv it is best to keep it short. Also try to get a placement before applying to make sure that is what you actually want.
