  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role consists of doing daily tasks such as: administrative work, helping to run the brand's social media channels, and helping to plan and execute events. I have to talk to both external and internal customers daily and I have other duties such as ordering stock for the business and helping out with the general flow of the office.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Internally, my business is great as they send me to external training courses such as digital courses or campaign courses. These have really helped me to be able to grow professionally and within myself. My job role helps me to pick up the business every day by talking to people within the business and talking to customers. However, the actual training provider has not been the best as they are quite poorly ran.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my daily work and working within my team. The company culture is great and relaxed and I feel like i truly fit in with everyone. The actual job role went beyond my expectations as before I joined I always thought apprenticeships would be you maybe doing what others don't want to do but it's not like that at all ,you get your own responsibility and projects! However, the training provider has sadly fallen much below my expectations and it has been very poor.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is not the best at being organised. There have been many false promises that have been made-such as promising to send us over revision packs for our exams and that has still not happened. Our webinars are often quite slow and are far behind the place in the programme we are actually at. There have also been times where mentors don't turn up for webinars and we don't get told until we have been waiting on the webinar for ages. A good thing about the programme is our mentor who has catch up calls with us so we can ask for help then, but that is pretty much the most helpful!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is great and is always there for support. Whenever I need something she always makes sure to help as much as she can and is always willing to support. The rest of he team is great to make up for any lack of information I have been given from the training provider as they will always try their best to help out in their field of employment.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The only type of help we get is through one skills coach. We have calls with this skills coach where we can ask questions, we are also able to email this skills coach. However, the answers you receive back are not always useful and that's if we get feedback at all. Some work has not been marked since when we first started the apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My job role is different to others so the qualification has not really done much help, but this may change for people who have a more suitable job role! There have been some assets of the programme which have taught me things that I did not know about business but I've mostly learnt what I know through my team members going through with me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My brand is very good at social events and we try to do one every couple of weeks to get out of the office and have some fun all together! We also try to go out some random evenings during the week after a stressful day at work to have some fun and forget about our stressful days!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working at Unilever to a friend as the atmosphere is great and if you get along with your team then there is a true 'family' feel there which is great. However, I would not recommend joining the Unilever apprenticeship with the current apprentice provider because it has not been the best and it has truly been quite upsetting and stressful.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • 1) Be yourself! Don't put on an act and just truly be yourself throughout the assessment days. People will choose you because of your personality and being yourself will make sure that you are placed within the team that suits you! 2) Don't be afraid. Just go for it and sign up and do the best that you can because that's all you can do! 3) Get the most out of this opportunity as you can. Try to get involved in as much as you can and most of all, just have fun.
