EY Smart Futures Student Review

The first 2 weeks were focused on developing employability skills such as presentation, public speaking, organisation, leadership organisation and effective networking skills. These were developed through various activities such as the Dragon's Den task. Second week also included a visit to one of EY's clients - Baker McKenzie law firm in London to participate in a negotiation task. Last week involves business experience and visiting client sites. I visited Dominoes Head Office in Milton Keynes and helped the EY team by casting accounts. We also had to research background info about clients.

developed CV/interview skills which was useful. Also improved confidence in public speaking and presentation. Worked with different characters and personalities so improved team working, people and leadership skills. New skills learnt were casting accounts and effective research of clients such as financial performance, board directors. You also work towards a level 2 Charted Management Institute (CMI) qualification which looks good on your CV.

At the end is a graduation event to celebrate achievements. Everyone gets certificates signed by EY Foundation director and exceptional students are awarded prizes for most improved, highest contributor, star performer etc. I got a £10 amazon voucher as a prize for being in the winning team for Dragon's Dens task

it's quite organised as I was sent a timetable before the programme started and they stick to the timetable.

mentor provides a lot of support with ucas applications/ EY school leaver programme / apprenticeships

they help you with your CV and interview techniques, your mentor can help with lots of things after the EY Smart Futures Programme

you are paid around £6 per hour for the whole 3 weeks so around 90 hours. For the first 2 weeks you are also given a free lunch everyday. They also reimburse travel expenses to client sites only but not travel expenses to the EY office.

after EY smart futures finishes you are invited to alumni events which can improve networking and interview/CV//apprenticeship/job opportunities
