Business Academy intern Review

I was part of the Business Academy which is where you were working with a team in EY for a week. You spent 3 days working with a team and learning about the day to day experiences of that team. You were given actual work to do such as audits and given a lot of support throughout this experience. One of the main benefits of this experience is that you could work with anyone ranging from a partner to an intern. You were also taken along to actual client meetings either in the client suite or off site which were all valuable experiences.

I have a learnt a vast amount of new skills. I have leant how to use excel in more detail, how to use outlook and how to create a powerpoint. I have learnt how to give good presentations and how to write with a business style. I have also learnt how to interact with clients and how to present myself in a business enviroment.

I really enjoyed my programme. The team I was working with was lovely and so welcoming. The culture at EY was also realy inclsuive and nice. The actual workload was a little light but obviously understand that it is not the busy season and their is only so much I can help with when I have no previous experiance.

From the week I was here I felt i was valued. Obviously I have no previous experiance, no degree and no qualifications so there is only so much value I can bring to the team. However, the team still included me by taking me to meetings and giving me basic work that I could complete.

The training on the first day was useful. We were all given laptops for the week, our own personal email adresses and skype accounts. There were all useful as they allowed us to interact with other members of the team and complete work. There was no actual training for the work we had to do, it was a more learn on the job apporach but there was someone to ask for help if we needed it.

We were all assigned a buddy for the week who was essentially with us at all times. Therefore, any questions we had could be ansewred almost immediatley. My buddy also went out of his way to help me prepare for my presenattion and introduce me to key members of the team so therefore I felt very supported

I felt we received a lot of support from our concillors and buddies. They went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable at all times and thus issued us with a vast amount of support. Our councillors were also easily contactable via email so they were ready to answer any queries we had.

We were paid for our 5 day work experience which resulted in around £200 for 5 days. I felt this was a fair amount concidering we were travelling into London and rail fares are not cheap. We were also provided lunch on three occasions and unlimited coffee and hot chocolate!

We were told about opportunities that do take place such as yoga but obviously we were only here for a week so could not grasp any of the oportunities provided by EY. However, our councillors took us out for lunch 3x out of the 5 days we were there which was not expected but well appreciated.

I would recommend EY to a friend because I really feel like they care for you and want you to have an amazing experiance. They go out of the way to give you so many points of contact and provide you with a vast amount of knowledge.

I would say be yourself. If you are the right candiate then you will get the job. They are a big advocate of strength based assessments so when being interviewed or assessed always provide real life examples. I also believe you need to be proactive and put the time into researching EY's values before applying.
