  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Not since my second year of Apprenticeship due to lack of store management and poor training plans. Everything i know has almost been self taught or handed down through word and mouth by other management.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • As an Apprentice, Dept or store assistant you are not valued and are seen as expendable.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremely poor. There is no training structure for apprenticeships, No set program for each store to follow and targets to reach, Ive always been expected to complete my coursework in my own time I.E Break times or after work. The support network is lacking, asking to talk to an area manager only to be told to talk to my store manager (who was an ASM acting store manager at the time). In my second year of my apprenticeship the training company went into administration, I was told not to worry and all my work would be sent over and my apprenticeship will continue as normal, after two months passed I asked my area manager what was going on, only to be told it will all sort it self out and not to worry, the same was said for month three, four, five and six, till I contacted the new training company myself only to be told they had to knowledge of who I was and all my work had be lost. I then had to complete almost a years coursework and in store assessments in 2 months. Since year 2 my store has not had a stable store manager which led to me missing lots of opportunities to learn and develop Nearly everything Ive learned including ordering stock, safe management, floor management has been self taught, There is no OVERALL structure put in place within ALDI for apprentices and no targets or goals to get them where they are expected to be.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Keen to finish apprenticeship ASAP, not really any training taking place with the training provider, Read a few statements and repeat to a microphone and watch a video or two, no real on site management training or store running.

    4/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Very little, Apprenticeship inst brought up to often by employer due to hassle of potential issues for my employer. How can my area manager ensure me training if we have no permanent store manager or higher management

    3/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I live at home with my parents so I am okay, The pay to work ratio is not update to any more.

    3/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • company events and activities are actively discouraged, all work colleague group chats are banned.

    1/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • The pay doesn't cover the stress or expectation for Depts or store assistants anymore, The few hours a week you will get to work leaves you being paid less a month that most retailers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Always try your hardest because you owe it too yourself to work 100% and always fight to get higher in the company.
