  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a junior in the tax team which requires me to prepare client workings for audits ready for more senior reviews as well as preparing tax computations and I also work as part of a 40 country+ global compliance and reporting engagement to make sure a client is compliant with laws across the world.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt multiple skills since joining my firm, probably the most evident would be my people skills. Whether this be whilst talking to colleagues in the office or clients on the phone or in person, I feel much more comfortable than I did when I started speaking to people.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do not necessarily enjoy my programme and I think you would find it hard to find someone who does enjoy working, but I certainly do find certain aspects of my job very interesting and I definitely have no problem with coming into work and talking to colleagues or clients.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • EY have multiple different employee benefits, some of which can be out of our hands, for example more senior people in the office can give £50 voucher awards to junior members, however, a major flaw in how valued I feel by EY is through salary. I feel my skills now nearly 2 years into the job should warrant a slightly higher salary and certainly higher than any joiners who are graduates. I have also received no bonuses since my time at EY which does make me feel slightly less valued

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured in the sense that I am in work/office when my team experiences busy periods and I tend to go out of the office to college or study in slightly quieter periods. This ensures I don't miss out on key technical knowledge at work whilst managing to maintain my study requirements in slightly less busier times.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider regularly emails me with updates and ensuring me they're there if I need any extra help or support. One flaw for me would be there are too many home study days rather than being in college. I think most people would agree they learn better in college than teaching themselves at home.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer tends to leave my qualifications and learning to the training provider. Although my employer does host some training sessions on relevant issues in my team regularly and hosts basic workshops to ensure I have the basic skills needed to be able to complete my job day to day.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As discussed above, I don't think my salary is high enough for someone who has been with the business nearly 2 years and passed multiple exams. At the end of the month after all expenses have been paid for, I find myself with fairly little as disposable income for me to spend or save.

    3/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of opportunities at EY especially with it being a multinational company. I have never personally done anything to extravagant outside of work but there are definitely opportunities for people to take up if they're interested in doing something. I just personally have not been interested in any of this so far.

    7/10

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY to a friend because as mentioned above, there are plenty of opportunities to pretty much do whatever you want to do in a certain service line. this means if you're interested in a specific area you will more than likely be able to fulfill your needs.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • My advice would be to look into what service line they're interested in. Although you do not have to absolutely love a service line, it will certainly help in the longer run if you at least slightly enjoy your job and will more than likely mean you get along with the people
