  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a deputy store manager. Day to day I'm running the shop floor giving jobs too store assistance. I am also responsible for handling the safe and distribution of money.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt loads of new skills including confident communication with others both working together to achieve a goal and instructing staff on tasks too complete. Alongside this I've gained management qualifications that i can take outside the retail business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with fellow managers and store assistants to complete daily tasks to a time schedule. The company really looks after its staff members. Some day to day jobs can be demanding especially when the shop is busy and time targets need to be hit.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • On a day to day basis hard work and efficient running of the shop is expected from managers. Yearly reviews with the store manager happen where both positive and negative things about you are talked about and looked at. External recognition comes from your tutor who you see monthly and work with to achieve the retail management qualifications.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is extremely well organised and structured. With the tutor being contactable all the time with any questions you may have. As well as this all managers are there to ask for help.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider as i can ask her questions through email or texts. She helps when coming into store and looking at work I've completed such as any missed answers that need a little adding to them.

  • I receive a lot of support from my managers as I can ask them anything and come to them with any problems.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is very good especially for an apprenticeship. It covers my living costs and more.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are schemes Aldi run outside of work including a bike to work scheme as well a company gym discount code. As Ive mentioned the management qualification can be applied to other career opportunities where management is involved.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The money you get paid is good, as well I enjoy the interactions with fellow managers on a day to day basis. As well as this you get qualifications through the apprenticeship and it has helped me grow in confidence and as a person.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Don't be afraid of working hard as this is expected working for Aldi. You should enjoy working with people both as staff members and the public.
