  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an IT Risk and Assurance consultant at EY which essentially involves testing the IT controls in a company to see if we can rely on them or not. The IT controls we test include starters, leavers, privileged users, password settings and more. I get to manage those who have joined after me and delegate tasks to other members of the team. I will have daily interactions with my seniors and work with them to ensure we document all processes. I would say the time on site vs time in the office is split 40/60 which gives a nice variety without the enjoyment of stopping in a hotel wearing off.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am studying towards the ACA and have recently completed the certificate level along side my day to day job after 18 months. We occasionally have internal training days where we learn more around innovation and can show our interest in any other areas of the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the fact you always have a support network around you both in relation to chargeable work and non chargeable activities. Everyone is so welcoming and always happy to help. I believe it is a great way to kick start your career in the right direction.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • I feel that within the smaller teams I work in that the work I produce is recognised and everyone is willing for me to be involved in every type of task available to aid my learning. I also feel my counsellor is supportive and values when I have completed an engagement well and received good feedback. However, I do feel that the larger team and those higher up do not appreciate the time and effort that is put in to produce the work that is being documented.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel as thought the training is very structured and you find out well in advance when you will be in college and when your exams are. The structure of promotions was not clear at first so ensure to ask. Team hierarchy is always set out at the start of each engagement but everyone is happy to help each other.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Based on the fact we live in Birmingham and perform a specialised job I believe could be offered more however for the age you join work it is good.

    5/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are BCAS events arranged which allows you to get to know other people around the same age group also at work and do fun events arranged! We always go for team drinks at least once a month.

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have had a great experience at EY and as a the first proper employer for me I can speak very highly.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Always be confident with everything you do and never be afraid to speak up. Get involved no matter how shy you are as you will not see many of the other people in the assessment centre again. You are kept well informed of the process and feel free to follow up for some feedback.
