  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an apprentice in Aldi you help with general day to day running in store like a store assistant within your first year then in the second year you start to learn about the management side of the job. Each day you will be on different things for example one morning you could be tasked with doing produce delivery and this needs to be completed in 1 hour so you are set time scales for every task you do.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Time keeping is very key within Aldi and that has definitely improved for me because you need to make sure you are doing things within a time scale. Communication is also key in retail as you need to be able to talk to customers each day and also need to be clear when talking to your work colleagues on what needs to be done and this has improved a lot over the last year.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is very good as you are learning within a work environment while getting paid but when your assessor comes in you also learn about other parts of the retail sector, because you are not always doing the same thing each day it doesn’t get boring it will be a new challenge each day and that’s what I love about working for Aldi.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured as your assessor comes in once a month to see how you are getting on and to mark and give you new work books to complete and within store you always know what tasks need to be completed so it is a very well structured scheme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My assessor is always in contact with me making sure I am getting on alright at work and making sure I know what I am doing with my work books so I know someone is there if I need to talk about things if I am struggling with anything if that’s at work or with the work books you are tasked with complaining.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within store you are meant to have a trainer but in my store you learn from everyone in store not just the trainer that you have so if you are struggling to understand something you could ask anyone of the team and they will help you understand what you are doing.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Aldi pay is great as an apprentice your pay goes up each year of the apprenticeship which is really good so it doesn’t mean you are stuck on one wage for the 3 years that the apprenticeship lasts it works as if the more experienced you get the pay goes up as well. For someone that doesn’t have to travel far to work and doesn’t have big bills to pay this pay is fantastic.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes as Aldi is the headline sponsor for teenage cancer trust (tct) they did a concert last month to raise money and each store had an opportunity to win some tickets by doing a video and posting it on YouTube, my store won tickets so we got to go and see kasabian at the royal Albert Hall and it was really good to go out with people from work and have a great time.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Aldi to a friend because it is a great company to work for they keep on expanding and there are so many opportunities within the company weather that’s in store like I’m doing or if it’s on the transport or in the wearhouse as a picker in each of these you can progress in your career and Aldi is only going to keep on getting bigger.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Make sure that you CV is up to date put every experience that you have on their and if you get a work trial make sure that you work as hard as you possibly can and talk to people that work their and you will have a massive chance of getting a job because they like to see you interact with the people you could potentially be working with.
