  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage a workstream within a large project, liaising with teams across multiple sites and ensuring daily targets are met. I also am part of the member engagement program which does events within our program, to help promote voice of the members. It caters for everyone and ensures we are all working as one big team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • communication, organisation, team leading. Confidence has been my biggest improvement, prior, I was already sure of myself but lacked being confident in my own abilities and this has being driven upward by my bosses. More often than not my bosses have made sure that I take on every opportunity possible.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have finished my modern apprenticeship and now doing a graduate level apprenticeship. I find it very exhilarating using my education to aide me understand what goes in work and I can use this, practically, which has helped me develop the education side and made it more relatable to work. The degree program is very good unlike QA.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by CGI?
  • I have never worked in a company so eager to help members, especially to young members. my bosses and managers have ensured that they let me know how well or what I can do to improve. I love working here because of this. One of their values is to ensure employees feel valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Modern apprenticeship- No. Graduate apprenticeship- Yes, it has given me more than enough required skills for the job. I have been learning things in an order to which I can use it at work. We have regular catch up with the uni and the company, Which has dramatically improved my understand of everything

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Training provider has been of minimal help. Very disorganised. The assessor was completely useless and never provided any real help. I found them to not really know what they were doing. I found getting my employers to help was much more effective and overall they were more beneficial to me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Without them I would have not completed my apprenticeship. I get so much support from my boss and surrounding managers- they are so keen to develop me and to ensure that I am receiving as much or more support. They go out of their way to support you- I have never seen this in previous companies

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • That is the only downside about CGI- my pay just tolerates my costs outwith the company. I feel like the way the pay review goes, apprentices are just there to match each other. I feel like CGI should review this because it should take into account what skills I have developed and that I EXCEEDED MY OBJECTIVES

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, I have been to many events, worked away etc. Over a year ago I had the opportunity to meet past present and future and demonstrate the capabilities of what cgi has to offer. It has been a great way to delve more into the people side of a business rather than the IT side.

  • 9. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • look at comments above, I have already recommended to a friend. I wouldn't however, if they are looking for a good pay salary then I would not recommend CGI at all. That would be my only critique. Management are impeccable here as are the colleagues and it's a great environment.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Be confident, bold and believe in what you do! Go in with an open mind to learn new skills, terminology and people skills. Make sure you understand exactly what the company do and their ethics. Ethics is a massive part of CGI and their values are demonstrated throughout their projects
