  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is Operational Assistant this means that as part of my role i assist with the day t day running of the projects for my company. This can sometimes mean undertaking administrative tasks, booking travel and helping other members where needed. Usually on a day-to-day basis i have direct interactions with my team lead and with my colleagues in the same team.

There re also many opportunities available for me to develop further with courses available externally.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by CGI?
  • CGI ensures that as members we all feel valued whether its completing a small task for someone you normally don't work with and them verbally thanking you or completing a big task and them giving you feedback that can be used as evidence of exceeding expectations at your next review. Furthermore, my managers and other team members make me feel valued as a member on a daily basis by being supportive and encouraging.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the work element to my program is very good and well structure. However the university side is much less so. We often find that we are not being given clear instruction and that when we are given information it often contradicts itself. Though studying is a downside due to the university chosen i feel as though it is worth it due to the nature of my work satisfaction.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We are give very minimal support from our training provider and they do not offer much help when it comes to issues and they have a very poor attitude when it comes to teaching us. Furthermore they do not make themselves readily available as they often make themselves very difficult to get a hold of.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team lead and manager are very supportive both for work and for my studies. they ensure that at no point do i feel overwhelmed and in the event that i do i have enough support and freedom to settle myself again and regain composure. Additionally they have been a great source of support since i had to re-locate for this job ensuring that i feel as though the change was worth it.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • We all signed up with the knowledge that our first year would be particularly rough due to the fact that the wage is low but i am able to afford a car, rent, food and still have money saved and ready to use for fun. Additionally the company has a great expense scheme that ensures when i do have to travel all my costs are covered.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • My company has a sports and social club that is run by members and there are many events open for us to attend for free or at a very discounted cost. Additionally, due to the fact my company encourages networking there are often meet ups arranged for fun to cool off at the end of a long day. in addition, there are also clubs withing the office such as fundraising and alike that we are encouraged to get involved in.

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a fantastic experience that has really helped me to grow personally, academically and professionally. it is also an amazing company to work for and a brilliant atmosphere to be a part of. Finally, I truly believe that this is an amazing way to enter into the world of work as we are showered with guidance and support.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • I would tell someone applying to CGI that they should ensure to be themselves throughout the application process, they accept you just as much for the person you are and what your personality can offer the office as they do for what your qualifications are. Furthermore, i would also tell them that in interviews ensure you aren't the loudest or quietest person on the room but also that you are not the loudest as this will not help you get a place.
