  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • EY Business Academy 1 Week- Working in different departments within your service line. Very hands on unlike work experience at another Big Four. Presentation at the end of the week.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Presentation skills- Gave presentation at the end of the week Networking- Great section to get people's email addresses in the learning journal- Makes it less awkward to ask Communication- Talking to people of all different levels including graduates, people currently on the school lever programme, senior managers and a partner.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much- Really useful insight into what EY staff do day to day. Treated like adults. Not sheltered from a wide range of staff like at another Big Four work experience.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • Really warm welcome. Professional but relaxed. Feels really easy to ask questions it doesn't feel like you're a burden to the staff by being there and asking lots of questions.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Structured but not too structured. Very personal to me- At the start had a chat with my main point of contact 'Managing councillor' about what I wanted to get from the people and he set up meetings for me with different people including a partner who didn't go to university which was a really interesting and insightful chat. I was also asked if I wanted to talk to anyone from outside the service line I was in which can help you to decide which service line to work.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We didn't have a training provider as part of this work experience programme but from what I've been told by people doing their exams EY is very flexible with the time you're in college and the training provider is good at preparing you for your professional exams.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I was given a buddy as a person I could email if I had any questions or problems but everyone was really friendly and I could always get support from the team I was working in each day. I felt really included in each team and not like a spare part which wasn't wanted.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • We were taken out for lunch three days with different people in the office which was paid for. £5.50 an hour covered train fare and had lots of money left over at the end of the week. Very prompt payment given on the Friday rather than having to wait weeks like I've experienced with other companies.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Not on this specific programme as it is only a week. We were taken out to eat which was nice. From talking to people I know if you do join the EY Business Apprenticeship there are sports teams and internal networks you can join.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great opportunity. Helped me to decide more about what I want to do in the future. Really nice modern office and great environment to work in- Really friendly and supportive

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Read about their values and 'Vision 2020' and bring those into your interview- How will you help EY to achieve that vision? Why EY over the other Big Four? What do you want from the programme? Get in early- The Discover EY programme prior to this was also a great experience Don't just write your application and send it in. Do it and leave it a few days then reread it because you'll find this you want to change/add/remove. Do that a couple times. Spelling and grammar check. If you do get on the week work experience make the most of it- Don't think of a question and not ask it because you're worried you'll be an annoyance- It's better to show an interest and everyone is so open and helpful they'll do their best to answer your question. Research what they do and know the service lines even if you aren't sure of which you want to work in and bring that into your online application/ telephone interview
