  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Associate in assurance, i work through a variety of accounts on a daily basis ensuring what the client has recorded at year end has been reasonably stated with no material differences. Since starting, i am rarely in the office and on a weekly basis i am on a client, clients normally last for 2-3 weeks on average and they are in a range of different industries which is really interesting to get an incite into the different jobs. When on an audit i am responsible for completing my designated areas and as a team we are responsible in completing the job in the given time scale.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a high level of audit and finance methodology and i can confident have a conversation with the client about the different finance aspects of their job. I am currently study towards my Chartered Accoutancy, ACA. Further, i have developed greater skill for IT, especially on excel learning shortcuts to increase the ease and efficient of my work. Further, within my role i have been encouraged to gain in confidence to be able to speak publicly. Further, to be confident with the work i am producing and be able to explain confidently and coherently. Further, i have learnt the roles that are within the business to ensure it runs smoothly and efficiently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programe as i am treat as though i have been to university, as first years are within the same bracket even though there is a mixture of Grads and School Leavers. Everyone in the office is supportive and on different audits we work within different teams. I do enjoy the programme and i enjoy the variation of going to college and working full time.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • From feedback i receive from my managers i do feel valued at EY. We receive internal recognition awards if we do exceedingly well, which i have won 2 since starting EY. We have family meetings which the whole office gets together and we discuss any issues/how we feel and points to improve the office.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When i began we immediately had a introductory week, which followed by a introduction to audit training week. Then we had a week at college learning the accountancy Exam. We have counselors in place to discuss any issues we are having and buddy's to assist with the work we are working on.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We are able to access My Kaplan at any given time. If we have any issues at work we can go to our counselors to discuss and develop an outcome going forward. My Kaplan allows you to email any issues and if you email they will allow you to go into the centre to discuss with a tutor.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a Councillor and a buddy system in place to discuss any issues. If you have any issues you are encouraged to bring them up immediately with the manager or with the councillor.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I still live at home so the salary is suffice to pay for my car payment, food and personal expenditure. Due to travel from different clients on a monthly basis, we receive petrol money of 45p a mile which covers my travel costs. Due to living in Durham and commuting to Newcastle there is less location costs that arise. Further, i have sufficient costs to cover social costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is several company events across the year which are covered by EY. Further, there is several sport programmes that are supported by EY for you to attend. Further, there is a donation match for when you do an activity to raise money for a charity EY will match the money raised.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a great place to work, it is one of the big 4 therefore looks impressive on your CV. Further, it has great programmes such as the Smart Futures and School leaver programmes which i have completed in both. Further, there is a variety of roles within EY.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • To ensure they have practiced the online tests before they complete them for the final time. Further, be confident but ensure you are being a team player at the assessment centre. For the interview ensure you are prepared, know what the company is about, know the role and the expectation of yourself if you get the job. Further, be ready for questions that could knock you off. Further, EY is great to achieve an accountancy career without having to go to University. I would of like to been told that there is alot of travelling that occurs with being an auditor at EY.
