  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy being part some large global audits. The opportunity to impress senior individuals at the firm and at clients is amazing and certainly built some long lasting business relationships. The intake are great and plenty of social events are organised to ensure relationships within the firm are fed. The culture at EY is excellent and flexible working is advocated within the firm. I have been allowed work from home and few days in the month which adds to dynamicity of the job

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • As with many firms, some managers are an absolute pain and others are a joy to work with. Yet it to clear to all that the previous do not embody the EY ethos and therefore do not often go far within the firm. Recognition awards are often handed out and therefore successfully convey appreciation.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Tutors are given for each subject. Furthermore, we have access to an online portal that supports out of site learning and is very convenient. The tutors are highly qualified and equipped to teach. The only issues is that class sizes can be quite large and with a young, discruptive and chatty group of people things can turn pear shapped pretty quickly. Yet the course is designed so that self-study is possible and any complaints made to the firm are often taken seriously.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a councillor and buddy aswell as other people within our respective audit teams. There is also a drive to get junior members of staff to have exposure with Partners through a counselling family tree. This has successfully supported career development of junior members of staff. Councillors review performance and as they often occupy roles as managers and senior managers within the firm, they give meaningful advice.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is a great package and certainly is sufficient. It is true that often junior members go beyond there pay grade to complete a high level of work however this is often not reflected in remuneration. This can often lead to the feeling that we are underpaid. Yet in retrospect the benefits of such exposure and development are gained in a non-monetary fashion.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many events and opportunities, including sport and art related circles. Furthermore groups related to the market in which we reside (banking) are set up to target specific client base. These often come outside of working hours.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great career opportunity and exposure to big clients. Great start to a long and prosperous career. In reality, there are some low moments that make you want to pull your eyes out, but the benefits seen in personal development, network building and client exposure are clearly apparent. There is also a substantial number of people in the same position as you, in the same intake. Which means you make some meaningful friendships and have a good laugh along the way.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • EY are looking for people orientated individuals. This means they are less worried about how intelligent you are at accounting and auditing because these skills are not the hardest to learn. But personality, character and values are much more fundamental and so we look for individuals who meet these specs first. For instance, think mostly of instances where you have demonstrated teaming and leadership. Don't be afraid to share any interesting experiences you have had also.
