  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I attended Discover EY which was a one day event aimed to provide more information about the apprenticeship programmes at EY on offer to school leavers. The day involved various presentations from members of staff as well as current school leavers, group tasks, lunch break and a tour of the London offices.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Although the programme only lasted a day, there was an opportunity to develop skills such as teamwork through the group tasks. As well as this, communication skills, confidence and thinking creatively were also involved. These skills were important when working in a group to get the task done efficiently and to a high standard.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme was very enjoyable and informative. It gave a taster as to what it might be like working at EY, as well as providing an opportunity to speak to current school leavers and what they enjoy about the programmes, this was very useful. It was also an opportunity to speak to others who are applying to EY apprenticeships to share interview tips ect.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • EY paid for transport to and from the venue for the day as well as providing lunch. This made me feel valued as I felt the company had already started to invest in me. as well as this, they had selected me after a telephone interview and online tests which was a good process of selection as it made sure they were investing in people who were prospective employees.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was well organised as there was a lot of presentations and workshops packed into one day. These included Presentations from current school leavers about what life is like working for EY, group tasks similar to those of an assessment centre, an opportunity to ask questions and a tour of the offices.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As the Discover EY programme was only a work experience/ information day there was no training provider. However, in a student presentation it was highlighted you are given days off to study for exams and attend a college for training along with other school leavers who are on the apprenticeship programme.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Throughout the application process there has been a lot of support as EY have answered any questions I have asked, they have also provided me with opportunities to visit my local office for networking events which have been really useful for my application as they have allowed me to speak to current CEOs and employees as well as visit the work spaces.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • This is not applicable for the Discover EY programme as it was only a taster day. From speaking to the current school leavers most seemed to live at home in the first year and commute from home due to cost. As well as this transport in london is a major cost to commute to and from the office. the discover programme transport was fully funded by EY which was really helpful.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The current school leaver presentations on the day provided an insight into the opportunities outside of work. These included joining sports teams, joining clubs and taking part in charity events and challenges throughout the year. These events would be a good opportunity for team building as well as having fun.

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend EY and the Discovery programme to a friend. Ey have always answered any question or query i have had about the application process and provided a lot of opportunities to visit offices etc. As well as this, everyone i have spoken to has highly recommended EY and all the current employees have been friendly and helpful.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • The main tip I would give to other applying to EY is to be yourself and be confident in your hobbies and passions. Practice the online tests and interview questions as this can help boost your confidence.the main tip for the assessment centre is to show good teamwork and efficiency when completing the tasks.
