  • Engineering Degree Software Apprentice - often involves designing and implementing Java code for a given problem scenario.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I will achieve a degree on the completion of the course. I've also learned how to programme in multiple different computing languages, and to design and test this code.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's often very difficult managing both work and university at the same time. This often leaves me with little time of my own. However, I've really enjoyed learning the topics included in our course as I have no previous experience or knowledge of this.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • Sometimes the apprentices can be generalised and not given specific credit. Others times, achievements can get overlooked but, on the whole, I feel very valued by the company. As apprentices, we also get the opportunities to go to awards evenings which can be used to show the company's appreciation.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As this course was new when we started, in the first year of the course some things felt a little unorganised. However, it is starting to come together now as we have worked towards making the course better.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • For our university course, the lecturers are always there for whenever we need assistance. Likewise, our NVQ accessor is very good at recognising us and supporting us.

  • The company is very helpful in making the working environment as supportive and comfortable as possible.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Our salary is very sufficient and helps to recognise the amount of work we have to put into the course.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There have been a few past company events, such as the staff party. There are also multiple charity fundraisers and sports classes.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The apprenticeship scheme is very good and is a much prefered option than going to university.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Preparation for the application process is key to helping you through the process.
