  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many new skills whilst being at Nestlé. It's been a journey of self discovery, especially in my second year. I have gained confidence and realised I'm good at things I never thought I was capable of. Nestlé has provided me with multiple training opportunities where I have been able to take time out of the business to go on training courses. This training will not only help me in my professional life but also in my personal life. For example I find it so much easier to communicate face to face, but in Nestle that's not always possible and I really struggled with written communication. Because of this Nestle invested both time and money from the business to pay for me to go on a 'Written Communication' course. It was brilliant!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutely love the Fast Start Programme. Everyone that I have worked with has been so friendly and supportive, and not only are we encouraged to learn as much about the business as possible, we are also challenged to push ourselves and produce great work, which I really enjoy. The benefit of doing the degree at the same time is that it helps me keep an open mind about the way other companies work, and develop a well rounded business understanding, and it also gives me the opportunity to apply what I learn at university to business situations straight away.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nestle?
  • Really valued. At the age of 18 I was trusted to manage a brand (obviously with the help of others) but I could make decisions that were really important to the business and the future of the brand. I have had the opportunity to be recognized externally. I have been trusted to represent Nestle without any supervision externally. Which has really helped my confidence and made me realize what I am really capable of. Through working on some really important initiatives for Nestlé I have realised that my opinion is really important.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very organised. We attend university every 6-8 weeks for 1 week at a time, and have visibility of these dates for the year ahead. We are also given reasonable notice of our next placements, and the dates that we move.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The support from university has been getting better, but previously we have had problems getting marks from assignments back on time, and having useful feedback to support the grades. Whilst we are at the university the support is fantastic, but when we're back in the office it becomes more difficult.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I had an amazing amount of support from Nestlé. They are so dedicated to progressing their younger talent. There is an endless amount of opportunity at Nestlé and they are prepared to support you any way they can. I was really greatful for how much they helped me.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It's different for me then others because I live at home. Although I have bills to pay it's not like having a flat on my own. I would say because York is so small it's great for getting about in. We have a great transport service. The train station isn't that far away and we have a bus stop right outside the office. Overall I think for the age we are, and the experience we have when we enter the business it's a great salary compared to others.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There is a good community of young people in Nestlé, and York is a great place to live with lots of different pubs and restaurants. The weeks in Sheffield are also really good as we can spend time socialising in the evenings as a group of 12.

  • 9. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's really good. You get your fees paid for, great experience, amazing people....you get to work at the worlds biggest food and beverage company too. It's such a great experience working here and you get to meet a lot of new people and see new places in the company too.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • The application process is quite long and rigourous, but ultimately they're looking for people who will be hard-working, ambitious, and genuinely interesting in learning about how the business process, so as long as this comes through then you should get pretty far!
