  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, I worked alongside a team working on an external project. During this time, I had to take minutes, make presentations, shadow team members and assist in any tasks. I spent a lot of my time working on Excel as this was one of the tasks delegated to me.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time I did several internal training courses on cyber security and security in the workplace which helped me learn what I should and shouldn't be doing to keep myself safe at work. I also developed my communication skills as I was tasked with reaching out to external clients.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme and what it taught me, and it has been a highly valuable experience for me. However, I feel, unlike some of the other scholars on the programme, I didn't bond very well with my team as we didn't have any social events - probably because there was a lot to do on the project, so there wasn't the time.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • I feel valued by my team as I was always told what I was doing well and what I can work towards, so it showed my team wanted me to do well. Also, I was praised in front of my manager when I deserved it, which also made me feel valued to the team I was working with.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I felt like everything was very well organised, and from the first day everything was set out and we were told what we'd be doing over the next few weeks. The induction and training was very clear to use from the beginning, and we were introduced to our manager and team. I do feel the "buddy" system wasn't well organised, as I didn't get to meet with my buddy at all over the 4 weeks.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Throughout my time I was always able to get all the help I needed from my team members, who were always willing to spend a few minutes with me to help me with my problems. I was also given specific feedback on my work by my team members nearing the end of the programme.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I had little contact time with my manager and my mentor, all of the support and guidance I received was from my team members, and one specific member who I was shadowing throughout the four weeks.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The package met my costs very well, as I was given accommodation in central London so my travel time was under an hour. I was easily able to pay for travel costs, living costs and any social events I went to during my time.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • As I was there for four weeks, I didn't get a full grasp of what EY offers outside of work. However I am aware of many people who have been on expeditions with team members for charity, such as teaching in less economically developed countries.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The experience has been very valuable for me, where I've learnt many soft skills. Also the whole process of applying and going through assessment centre has helped me gain experience in what applying for jobs would be like in the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I think it's important that I stayed true to myself, I didn't lie during my interview nor did I make up stories to try and sound fancy. You should be yourself, and answer the questions in the interview based on your previous experiences.
