  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a fleet apprentice which entails fixing the tube trains daily and carrying out day to day maintenance on the trains. This can be anything small to anything big depending on the job in question.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt several new skills and also developed new skills while working for transport for London. This has given me a new insight in engineering and what transport for London do for the tube.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the programme however it can be very challenging at times especially if you are not from an engineering background so it's starting pretty much from scratch but once you get the hang of it it is good

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Transport for London?
  • I feel very valued by transport for London, they look after all empoyees, they recognise you if you help out in any way, very understanding also very helpful which makes me feel very valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is not too great, in the first year you learn new skills and engineering based of stuff that you would learn in college, but out in placement you seem you do not need at all what you learnt in the first year as it is completely different out in the real world.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Alsways recive support from the training provider, any questions or queries you may have they always answer to the best that they can do or always try and follow it up if they can which others to get you the answer.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer gives 100% support, always helping if needs be, try and give you the best opportunity if a course arises which they and you think will benefit you if it is necessary so it is great.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is absolutely exceptional as an apprentice, you wouldn't find this salary anyway else as an apprentice, for the amount of work and also the benefits they provide you are outstanding.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of opportunities outside work such as going to different events to share your apprenticeship story with other applicants who are trying to apply for the scheme etc.

  • 9. Would you recommend Transport for London to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have enjoyed every bit working with transport for London it has given me a new insight on life in genenral, I would say it is a job for life because it is, as they will look after you every step of the way.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Take a basic engineering course at college before applying as it will give you a better jndesratanding of what would be entailed and will also help you with the application process especially with the tests such as mechanical and technical comprehension.
