I an employed by TfL as a HR Apprentice, on a rotational placement scheme. I started of in a 4 month placement in HR Services, where I was involved in the day-to-day transactional processes of HR. I am currently in my placement in the schools skills team where I am assisting in a number projects. Day to day I do things such as contacting school to ask about feedback from our projects, I also help with the long-term planning of projects.
I have improved my confidence and people skills since I have started my apprenticeship. I have attended a number of training courses on how to use our systems, and plan on attending more, such as recruitment training. I have done a lot of shadowing and attended a lot of meetings which have helped increase my knowledge of my organisation and how it works.
I enjoy every part of my apprenticeship and job, my day-to-day role is varied and exciting. I meet a lot of new people from all areas of the business from HR to legal to operational staff.
I feel very valued in my organisation. Although I am only an apprentice I feel as though I am making a difference, for example we have quarterly catch-up meetings with the HR director.
the programme is very structured. The first year is split into three 17 week placements. HR Services. HR Services (Delivery. People Management Advice Specialist. The second year is a year long placement shadowing a business partner. There is also room for movement if I specifically would like to visit somewhere.
A lot of support, we have face-to-face workshops as well as phone numbers and email address to contact people for help at any time.
A lot. I have a sponsor. A placement manager. A workplace 'buddy'. A mentor from HR. A buddy (another HR apprentice from a previous year) lots of people I can talk to depending on what I would like to tak about/what my concern is.
Very well. The salary is very high and competitive, one of the best paying apprenticeships I have ever seen. The perk of free travel is fantastic.
Lots of CIPD events we can attend. Lots of emails suggesting events and workshops I can attend, there are many opportunities I can take to help me develop.
Yes
The apprenticeship scheme is very well structured we receive a lot of support and a qualification as well as 2 years experience where I can move all across the business. Not to mention the pay and benefits.
Be collaborative, show an interest, be enthusiastic and flexible. Willing to take every opportunity you can. Take as many practice questions as you can.
