I am a train maintainer. I perform exams on the train and fault find. I interact with various people everyday. At the start of my day, my manager informs me of what team I am working with and what tasks I have to complete. Throughout the day I will interact with my team and other teams in order to complete the tasks efficiently.
I have gained a BTEC Electronic and Electrical Engineering Level 3 and Level 3 Rolling Stock. I have developed my socailisation skills as I interact with people of different backgrounds and ages. My manual dexterity has also improved.
I enjoy my job. I plan on developing a long career with TfL. The company encourages you to seek every opportunity that will advance your career.
I am supported and feel valued by Transport for London. We have support managers that support us during our apprenticeship and help with any work or personal issues.
I have meetings with my assessor on a 6 week period. I attended a structured college course in the first six months. I also had six week workshops for 6 months which were will organised.
My assessor reviews my work and then I am given feedback on how my work can be improved. I also am given a lot of support and guidance by colleges improve my skills and to learn more about the trains.
My manager is extremely supportive. My manager regularly checks my progress and also provides personal support. My manager has an open door policy, allowing all the apprentices to him when needed.
I have a good salary. I have little travel costs as Transport for London provides free travel on most Transport for London including buses, underground and trams. However I do have to pay for 25% of my train ticket.
Transport for London reaches out to the communities in London. Apprentices often volunteer to go to high schools, sixthforms, and colleges and to inform people of the great apprenticeships that are available.
