During my 2 year apprenticeship in HR management, I will rotate across HR in TfL. This can include anything from general administration, to shadowing members of HR and attending various meetings. I am currently in a recruitment placement.
I am studying for a level 3 qualification so have learned a great deal about HR management already. I have also been able to develop more technical skills such as skills in Microsoft Excel and Visio.
The company culture is excellent. Most people that you speak to have been in TfL for a number of years which is a great motivator. I enjoy the exposure that we get to not only HR but the wider TfL also.
I feel valued to an extent. Its great how much responsibility I am given however there have been times where I have not been recognised for the hard work I have put in, and others have.
We have a clear structure combined with regular catch up and meetings with managers, sponsors and buddies. We also have sufficient support with our studies which is positive, however I am not too keen on the amount of online lessons we have, I feel these are ineffective and would rather attend a physical class.
We receive a fair amount of support. I have not really needed a great deal throughout my time here but I know that there's a number of people to contact if need be.
We have many means of support here at TfL. Everyone in all the teams that I have worked in have been incredibly supportive and always make it clear that they are there to help if I need them.
It meets it very well. Of course the free travel is an excellent help to reducing my outgoings however living in London does not come cheap, the prospect of moving out is a long time away.
Yes, there are a number of teambuilding and workshops across the company that everyone is welcome too which is encouraging. The locations of our offices are also great with central London at your doorstep.
Yes
The amount of exposure you get to the company is a real eye opener and I can safely say that after 2 years spent here, you will be incredibly equipped to enter the working world in a vibrant and diverse city.
Make sure that you read up on the competencies that are required here at TfL, they will come in really handy when being assessed and interviewed. Also read up as much as you can on the sector of the apprenticeship as this will make you feel more confident at interview stage.
