  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I do project management which is split between college work and working in a placement with TfL. I work sponsoring projects currently within London Underground. I am responsible for helping organise the team through lessons learned, trackers and also help to manage risks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot about project management skills as well as finance. I have developed people skills and presentation skills. I have been on multiple training courses which allow me to learn different methods of project management.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The company is excellent and working for them comes with many benefits such as discounted travel and a free oyster card. The team and culture is very good. Everyone is very sociable however work really well as a team. Everyone is friendly and willing to help.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Transport for London?
  • I feel very valued by Transport for London. I often end up doing work that fully qualified project managers would do and I get respected the same as any other employee. My manager is very good in giving me the right amount of work and responsibility.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • All the team are very supportive however a lot of the time they are too busy to sit down a talk through things. Sometimes I don't feel I have enough time to study and revise for college and exams. Support meetings are helpful and help me to keep on track.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is a lot of support there however it's not always very accessible. Some of the training sessions feel like a waste of time but in general we are given all the help and support we need.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The human resources department and my line manager are both very good in assisting with issues and problems in and out of the workplace and there is a lot of support there when you need it.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Although we get 75% off our commute into work, because I live far away, almost 15% of my salary is spent on travel to and from work. It's a very good salary but it would help lots of people if we got more expenses paid for.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of social events all the time and networking opportunities. We are also able to take part in ambassador events which also can involve earning some extra money.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a very reliable and supportive company to work for. They really do care about each person and the salary is good. The experience is also great as its a large respectable organisation great to have on your CV.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Make sure to prepare for the interview and have an idea of upcoming projects or programmes within TfL. Make sure you speak up even if you're not sure what you're saying is right. Confidence and being able to work well in a team will help massively.
