  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I do the business admin in technology as well as working as a PA for my manager. I chase timesheets and ensure that everyone has submitted them before the deadline. I also raise purchase request and invoices for the department’s purchases. My jobs vary with many small projects like asking for approvals for the company's job replacements. One project that I do monthly is putting together a monthly pack giving an update on all the teams and departments and this will be sent out to everyone. For my PA role, I send out my manager reminders, I arrange his meetings and any external clients that wishes to meet with him; I am the first point of contact. My job involves talking to people every day and helping anyone. This includes helping booking travel, doing their expenses and helping getting approval.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills at my time on the apprenticeship. This includes communication, and how to communicate verbally, and on the computer, for example when it comes to talking to new clients and how to greet them when taking them up for a meeting. I have had the opportunity to complete excel training to improve my skills on spread sheets. As well many training courses of conduct and culture and phishing emails, and compliance training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my time working and learning, especially working in a small team but having the opportunity to communicate with everyone in the department and hearing about what they do. The bank is a Japanese investment bank and they focus a lot on conduct and culture so it has been interesting to learn the culture and how important it is to the bank. This has exceeded my expectations of how good the company is and how charity is very important to them, not just money. However the apprenticeship work has been very easy and has not challenged me enough.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nomura?
  • I get a lot of appreciation when I help people out, even though it is a part of my job, they are very thankful. I have received recognition from my manager and he is happy with my performance. When I am asked to take on more jobs, I can tell that they are coming to me because they know I will get the job done without hesitation or problems

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme that I am doing is new to the IT department and so they have had to change a lot of how they would normally do things with other IT apprentices. But my manager has made sure that I am doing the things needed for my apprenticeship. They make sure that I am having the time to complete my training and studying. I have also been given a mentor and a buddy to help me and give me advice and this means that I have someone to go to who is not manager and can help me.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The training provider doesn't give much support, I find myself chasing them a lot to get a response from them. The workshop days are not very good as we discuss a lot of things that do not turn up in the test. My assessor is very nice and helpful, however does not meet as much as we should and doesn't stay in contact as much as they should.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer and have had a lot of help from my colleagues. They are all very happy to help and offer online training and will pay for external training courses if I wish. The attitude to my learning and supporting me is very good; they want to ensure that we are getting the qualifications.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is excellent, and meets all the costs for travel and living. With working in London everything is a lot more expensive and they have made sure that we are getting enough to live and get to work. I have enough to pay for my social costs and daily costs. It has also enabled me to move out and get my own place, which has been very helpful and beneficial to me.
