  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am helping control the supply and demand IBM are ordering for IBM servers against orders from internal and external companies. There are a lot of daily conference calls which help communicate with other IBMers and the suppliers from other countries and continents in the world.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The main thing skill i have developed is presenting. I have had to present information to managers weekly/monthly and as the time goes on I am feeling a lot more comfortable doing this.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel the teams and people within IBM are all very approachable and friendly. Before I joined I didn't have any clue what to expect but I am very happy I have joined IBM and feel its a great opportunity.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I had to attend a 2 week induction down south and also tend to have a course every 6 months in England which usually last 1 week.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • In my current job role I am shadowing loads of different people learning about there job roles and also gaining constant help. I also have a manager that is always my manager throughout the apprenticeship no matter what team I am in which allows me to always have a constant contact.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • IBM have a organization called Foundation which is designed to make it easier for apprentices and graduates to enter such a big company. I feel that this helps a lot and allows you to have many contacts from the very start that you can rely on.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I believe this apprenticeship scheme is very well paid and it also helps that I live very local to the office and therefore travel costs are minimal.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Every 6 months I have a course in England aswell as occasional events with other IBMers. Giveback in the local community is a big thing within IBM which allows you to help the local community within working hours in pretty much anything that interests you.

  • Everyone is friendly and very approachable. Take every opportunity that comes your way and try expand and keep a big network.
