PMO: I currently provide Project Management support to the Senior Management team and wider programme team. daily tasks include monitoring Deliverables and Milestones, tracking documents and completing ad-hoc task for the Release Manager
Interpersonal skills; iTools; Small Project Management abilities.
I think the experience is a rare, excellent opportunity to gain a degree qualification and learn basic, and extensive IT management skills. However, I feel there isn't enough support provided to SDP students when finding roles and tips within first year to manage workload.
Previously, I have felt very valued and as part of a significant team - although more recently I have experienced being in the position of feeling not very valued and have been mistreated by part of Senior Management on my project.
The Programme is organised enough for students to build the foundation to learn and create a career, although university/ CGI communication is not always completed to satisfactory standard and exercise (such as uni book buying) can be delayed due to this lack of communication.
Tutors at university are great. We are provided with CGI Wiki help. General attitude is ok as long as no issues arise, however if a query is raised the answer can be long awaited.
Managers are generally very supporting, as are Work Based Study Mentors. However guidance with problems is very limited.
Salary isn't amazing, however the majority of extensive project travel is covered
There is the sports and social club, which you pay £5 a month for. There is often volunteering opportunities available from members of staff to participate in.
Yes
Good opportunity for those who would like to work in a professional environment and build up CV, while gaining the degree qualification.
Expect work load to be extensive while completing your degree; ensure you gain good network contacts at the start of your employment and keep in contact (as roles can be found this way)
