  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Having done software testing for 6 months, I've now moved on to a IT support role for one of our space sector clients. My daily tasks range from updating security software on our systems, system backups, Software/Hardware auditing, building computers, and a whole range of adhoc requests from office staff and external clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Due to the nature of CGI (being a project based company), you have the opportunity to work on lots of different projects which give you exposures to the types of work being carried out by CGI. In my 2.5 yrs with CGI, I've worked as a Software Tester, Sales Bid Team Assistant, Project Management Office Assistant, Hardware Engineer, and now an IT Support Engineer. You will build up a whole range of skills whilst getting the right exposure to clients. You can even go on external training courses all paid for by CGI, which you can add to your CV !

  • I've really enjoyed my time on the CGI Degree Apprenticeship Scheme as it allows me to gain a fully paid for Degree in IT and Business Management, whilst being able to work on real projects at CGI the other 4 days a week. CGI really do care about helping you become the best version of yourself and will assist you in building the career you want. The added benefit of being in a project based company is that if you don't like one project, you can always try out something different until you find the role that suits your interest. • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The scheme is really well organised, and the training provided is fantastic. From the start, you are assigned a 'Buddy' who you can go to for help or advise, as well as a work-based mentor to provide you work based support. You spend one day a week at university and the other 4 at work; this works quite well as you get to experience university life like normal full-time students, but also gain valuable work experience at the same time.
