  • I work as a business analyst on a software development project. Day to day activities include liaising with the client to establish the requirements of the document management system that we are providing them with

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills in my 18 months at CGI. These range from general professional communication skills which I have learned by being around colleagues and working on client site, to SharePoint specific skills such as understanding SharePoint functionality and how this can be used to assist a document management system

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • To a large extent I thoroughly enjoy my programme. The mixture of university studies, combined with practical work experience is invaluable and has been crucial to my career development. Simply being able to learn at university and translate this to add value in my day-to-day job is hugely satisfying

  • 4. How valued do you feel by CGI?
  • I feel extremely valued by CGI. The fact that all members of the business have been so accommodating and understanding of the pressures and challenges that I face from balancing a job and a degree at the same time, has been extremely encouraging

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised and structured. For example, the topics that we study at university map across seamlessly to the work that I do on a day to day basis. I think this organisation is crucial in order for the programme to work effectively

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider provide support through the use of mentors. Furthermore, all lecturers are freely contactable which is fantastic as if i have any questions, then I can simply ping them an email and they can get back to me. This really facilitates a better learning experience

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have a workplace mentor, academic mentor and a people manager. This all adds up to a range of sources that I can get support from. In addition to this, I can contact the programme leader at any point for support and they are also able to address any improvements that I have to suggest

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary package meets my costs and in my second year of the programme, I feel that the salary is reasonable. In addition to this, I receive flexible benefits such as private health care which has been a huge bonus and really assisted me to keep healthy and deal with issues quickly.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of opportunities outside of work such as voluntaring. For example, I can get involved with encouraging local students to join our school leaver programme. I really enjoy the ability to engage with the local community on this level

  • 9. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Firstly because of the qualifications which are fully funded. Secondly the fact that you get crucial work experience in industry and get to develop your career from the word go. Thirdly because you get paid whilst studying. All of these three factors contribute to provide a fantastic opportunity


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Show how you match to CGI's core values. This is really important as if you do not match the corporate culture, then you will not be a natural fit with the company. This could cause issues for both the company and yourself in the future.
