I am a Junior Project Manager. I work in a large team, dealing with a large client on a daily basis. I work alongside more experienced project managers who are able to give advice on situations. I deal with risk management, deployment of systems and interaction with clients.
I have learnt many skills such as managing risk, working in a team & how to successfully work with Clients.
I enjoy working in this programme as it is giving me plenty of experience in a multitude of areas, I am easily able to move between teams every few months in order to gain more experience & work with all different people. It has exceeded my expectations of the programme.
I feel valued by being involved in a lot of tasks & being relied upon by managers for my knowledge on a subject, for example risk management. It is difficult to gain recognition internally or externally through CGI as it is mostly managers who get appreciation/bonuses for great work.
My programme is fairly structured. I feel that in this programme, the Apprentice needs to have a lot of drive to push themselves forward, otherwise they do not get as far as they want. If you have the drive to progress then you can get the ideal structure to your job. CGI do have a better studying approach & support is given when asked. The montor system is good if you get assigned a mentor who wants to help and give the right advice.
I receive a great amount of support from my training provider through a vast amount of training materials and mentors being available most of the time for support.
I receive an adequate amount of work from my employer. This is usually though a team more than a specific mentor. Also, there is the support from others at the same level as myself.
We have a good salary, but travelling to Client offices can sometimes mount up as we sometimes cannot drive there. Otherwise, it is a good salary that has a structure of pay grade as you progress through your apprenticeship.
Yes, we have many social events within CGI. We also sponsor many awards evenings where we have tables booked. The Social Club within CGI is also very worth being involved in to get free tickets to events.
Yes
A good company if you are prepared to work hard for a good position in the company. It is very flexible role and is very capable of extending your skills.
Work hard at the start to get places and it will help you in the long term. In your application be as honest as possible in order for them to see what role you would be best suited for in CGI.
