I am a sponsored degree student, which means that I work four days a week for CGI and I attend university one day a week to study for a BA (Hons) in Business Management for IT.
Throughout my time with CGI so far I have learnt a number of new skills including test script writing & running, timesheet analysis and other administrative skills.
Overall I have enjoyed my time so far on the programme. I have met lots of new people, made new friends and learnt new skills which have helped me develop.
I feel fairly valued by CGI. I have received a lot of support in the form of career managers, line managers, career mentors, resource managers and my buddy.
The programme is fairly well structured. They try to minimise the number of exams we have and give us coursework instead so we don't lose focus on our work.
We receive a fair amount of support from the university. All the lecturers give us written and verbal feedback on our assignments and we can ask them any questions we may have.
I also receive a good amount of support from my employer, with my career managers, line managers, career mentor, resource manager and buddy. I would like to point out that there wasn't much support in finding out first role when we all first arrived, we felt like we were left a bit to it after the first week.
Currently my salary and benefits meets my costs well, and I feel that my salary/package is appropriate for someone of my age and experience.
There are numerous social opportunities outside of work. For example I am currently taking French classes in Green Park, and I have joined the gym in Green Park. I know that CGI also has a social club that hold lots of activities.
Yes
I would recommend this programme to a friend because it provides you with an opportunity to earn money and work experience whilst still studying and earning a degree.
Be yourself. I noticed that when I was attending the assessment centre that people often got very loud in an attempt to get noticed. I would try to remember that it's not always the loudest person who makes the best impact.
