  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work in the Voice Team in London and we are responsible for all of the telephony devices, circuits and other services such as Audio Conferencing etc. across our European Branch offices. Operational responsibilities include; keeping on top of tickets, maintaining our database and resolving any major incidents that may occur.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst working for Nomura, there have been endless opportunities to develop my skills. For example, I have completed training on a few systems that we use, mainly for our ticketing system and other Vendor solutions that we have implemented and I have passed Cisco and ITIL exams. All this has provided me with a good base to further progress my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Nomura over the last 2 years. I have found work life a lot more interesting compared to my school days and I have worked in 2 great teams so far. The company lay on different events across the year and offer plenty of opportunities to volunteer to make a difference to our partner charities. This gave me the chance to meet new people and since joining Nomura, it has surpassed my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nomura?
  • I feel highly valued as an Nomura employee. My manager often shows his appreciation when we have our catch up meetings and he always makes sure I am working on projects that I enjoy and that will give me more experience to help me progress with my career.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is structured well. We have monthly meetings with our assessor to make sure we are up to date with our unit work which will ensure we finish the course on time. I have been given ample time to study whilst completing operational work.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider has given us a few platforms on which we can learn from. For example, we have a subscription with PluralSight (an online tuition site) which helps us with any courses that we are studying for. They always have our best interest in mind but can sometimes be hard to contact.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • HR are and always have been happy to support us in our studies. When we have any questions to do with our unit work, they will endeavour to provide us with the correct answers and even set up meetings for us to make notes on a particular topic. As I have said previously, everyone within Nomura wants the scheme to be a success so we have endless support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Being an apprentice and only 2 years experience within the field, my salary well exceeds any living/travel costs. Nomura also offer certain benefits at a discounted rate for leisure activities or health care etc.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of opportunities to socialise after work. For example, I have been involved with charity events including playing dodge ball to raise money for Rays of Sunshine (a recent example). There are also different sporting clubs that you can get involved with and various company events that you can attend/

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Being a global company, there are many roles for you to progress into and the support given to me to achieve my goals has been endless. Team members, managers and senior management, all have the scheme in their best interest.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura?
  • Nomura is a great place to work. On applying for a Nomura opportunity, be sure to learn about the company history and company objectives. This will prove that you are interested in working for Nomura and will be given a further chance.
