  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an environmental apprentice requires me to keep up-to-date with environmental management systems, register opportunities for improvement and frequently communicate with the HSE team and other members of staff to create new initiatives to reduce the company's environmental impact.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed a variety of detailed e-learning courses provided by the company which helped me in understanding my role within the business as well as others. Furthermore, I have become more competent in programmes such as excel where I have been trained about how to correctly format data.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This programme is the perfect match for me as it is focused around the environment and sustainability which I am passionate about, as well as being surrounded by friendly and supportive colleagues who embrace their role at Nomura.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Nomura?
  • I have been made to feel as valued as any other employee within Nomura. I have been warmly welcomed and appreciated for any work that I complete.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From the very start of my programme I have been aware of my objectives for the next year and the structure of my learning provider training. I have already had meetings with my assessor and have been given amazing support at work through one hour of study during each working day.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a great deal of support from my training provider as I have meetings with my assessor every 4-6 weeks, who is also easily available via email to provide any support that I may need regarding my apprenticeship.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive an enormous amount of support at Nomura through my line manager who gives me guidance and support as well as other members of the team who are always happy to lend a helping hand.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As someone who has recently finished A levels I am aware of other advanced level apprenticeships and the typical apprentice salary. My salary here at Nomura far exceeds most apprenticeship schemes and enables me to easily cover travel, social and living costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Having only been at Nomura five weeks I have already experienced the wide range of opportunities on offer, firstly by attending an awards ceremony at the Mansion House and the departments social gathering as well as having an apprentice appreciation day organised off site for next month.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Nomura to a friend as it provides a great deal of support, dedicated staff who are passionate about their role within the company as well as a culture which cares and invests in their employees.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura?
  • Be thoroughly prepared for your interview, know your job specification and your own strengths and most importantly be yourself and reflect your own personality.
