Environmental apprentice Review

My role as an environmental apprentice requires me to keep up-to-date with environmental management systems, register opportunities for improvement and frequently communicate with the HSE team and other members of staff to create new initiatives to reduce the company's environmental impact.

I have completed a variety of detailed e-learning courses provided by the company which helped me in understanding my role within the business as well as others. Furthermore, I have become more competent in programmes such as excel where I have been trained about how to correctly format data.

This programme is the perfect match for me as it is focused around the environment and sustainability which I am passionate about, as well as being surrounded by friendly and supportive colleagues who embrace their role at Nomura.

I have been made to feel as valued as any other employee within Nomura. I have been warmly welcomed and appreciated for any work that I complete.

From the very start of my programme I have been aware of my objectives for the next year and the structure of my learning provider training. I have already had meetings with my assessor and have been given amazing support at work through one hour of study during each working day.

I receive a great deal of support from my training provider as I have meetings with my assessor every 4-6 weeks, who is also easily available via email to provide any support that I may need regarding my apprenticeship.

I receive an enormous amount of support at Nomura through my line manager who gives me guidance and support as well as other members of the team who are always happy to lend a helping hand.

As someone who has recently finished A levels I am aware of other advanced level apprenticeships and the typical apprentice salary. My salary here at Nomura far exceeds most apprenticeship schemes and enables me to easily cover travel, social and living costs.

Having only been at Nomura five weeks I have already experienced the wide range of opportunities on offer, firstly by attending an awards ceremony at the Mansion House and the departments social gathering as well as having an apprentice appreciation day organised off site for next month.
