  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role I manage global headcount and I have started to take on some management of the budget. Headcount is hugely important within a company. I am training with the company as an analyst. On a day to day basis I am dealing with directors, vice presidents and managing directors internationally.

The work I do I enjoy which is a huge bonus as there is nothing worse than doing something you don't like. • 4. How valued do you feel by Nomura?
  • I get a lot of support and appreciation from my manager which is very uplifting. Even from the senior management within my department I feel very valued as I produce work for them too. Nomura are very supportive of their employees and do value them. They hold internal awards ceremonies so the company recognise the employees who stand out.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme in terms of being with Nomura is very structured. I currently study with QA and I had some issues in terms of my assessor falling ill, and was off for a while. She then returned and I saw her one more time and then she departed from QA. I was left for nearly two months without any QA assessor which wasn't great but I continued to complete my work. Apart from this situation, everything else has been okay.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I still live at home so my salary meets my costs. I pay some money each month to my Dad (it's his way of teaching me to be an adult). My location to work is very good as it only takes me around 25-30 minutes to get to work. My salary does cover my costs and does leave me with some money to enjoy myself and to also put away.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company hold a lot of 'in-office' events. Nomura work with a charity partner every two years and raise money for them. They also work with local charities and provide Nomura employees with 2 charity days a year where they can go and help out a charity.

  • 9. Would you recommend Nomura to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel Nomura is a very good company and very well respected company to work for. The aim of Nomura is to become Asia's global investment bank and they can achieve that. There is a lot to learn at Nomura and it has been a great place to work for the past eleven months.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura?
  • Interviews are always daunting so that's expected. I was nervous coming to my interview and then was 100 times more nervous by walking into the building as it is so huge and lovely. I would say not to let this put you off because it could affect how you interview. I am very lucky in that I can control my nerves and I am very confident. I had to study a test on my second interview with Nomura, I would have like to have been told this as tests are not my thing. It through me off a little and I left thinking that I hadn't done well. Obviously I did better than I thought, this is the only thing I could fault about that aspect. Everything else to do with the interview was fine.
