  • Mechanically maintaining the factories machines either on my own or with my mentor. We do preventative, reactive and predictive maintenance.

  • I have learnt many new skills, especially with help of a mentor to guide me. With a good mentor they can show you the skills they have learnt with their experience.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the programme I am on. The first year at college definitely helps with your confidence and exposures you to what the industry is going to be like.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme I am on is well organised in company, however they could improve in the communication of when you move around different areas, as the new factory isn't always aware of you starting.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support, they are always there to help. I have people who are always there to speak to if I have any questions and problems. Also, they are understanding with any problems you might be having at college or home.

  • All the trainers are very helpful and always give you good feedback on your work

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The things I learn at college help understand things I do at work, however some topics do seem a little useless as I have never had to use some of it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As an apprentice there are a lot of activities I get asked to take part of. They are always good to meet and bond with the other apprentices.

  • Yes

  • Everyone is helpful and good to work with. Also there have been a lot of apprentices before and they are all willing to help you along the way


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Howdens?
  • Do your research about the company and try to be as genuine as possible
