  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a project manager apprentice, provided by QA, which means I have various tasks assigned to me online. These tasks are a great help in providing me with enough skills to be a great project manager in my technical team. The team are giving me different tasks to help put these skills into practice, for example, running different meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have both developed existing skills and learnt new skills since starting my role at RWEST. For example, I have developed my communication skills, both verbal and written, and have been able to put this into practice on a number of occasions such as running weekly reporting updates for a project and writing formal emails. The new skills I have learnt have been project management focused.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme because of the structure that QA have given me. This makes me feel well looked after and cared about. Additionally, I have the full support of the HR staff at RWEST, as well as the members of the team that I work in, who give us all of their support and advice in terms of gaining knowledge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well defined with a clear emphasis on the completion of tasks being a key factor in this. The fact that I have a tutor to support me through any problems and to organise my tasks for me is brilliant also. I know exactly where to go if I have a problem with anything in the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive great support from my employer. We have a fortnightly 1:1 meeting to discuss my progress and problems when necessary, and I am able to get in contact whenever necessary for support. I have also received the relevant tasks to suit my programme and have been able to collect evidence to support my portfolio from doing these tasks.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received brilliant support from QA, the training provider, throughout the duration of my course so far. We have monthly live events which last 1 day to discuss the designated module for the month, provided to us by a specialist in project management training, which are great for learning and gaining knowledge.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the tasks that are assigned to me through the training provider help me with day to day tasks in my role, as well as specific tasks that I may be given. This is great because I am able to update my team and my line manager on what I feel comfortable doing and which skills I feel that I have learnt.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of social events to get involved in outside of work, including summer and winter parties. In addition, my team regularly have meals outside of work as a chance to get together informally. Also, the company regularly offers training, ranging from subject specific training to generic working training, which has been very useful.

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company looks after its employees very well and offer many great benefits, including a brilliant pension plan. The office environment is extremely friendly and the fact that you are able to work from home is another great flexible benefit. The HR team are brilliant with communicating and the canteen is great too!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RWE Supply & Trading?
