  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves looking after dealer queries, reporting on the week on week trend based on key KPIs we measure our dealer. Additionally, I analyse customer verbatim to find out pain points in the customer journey and using that analysis I create an action plan and present it to my manager. My daily interactions involve my line manager, manager, dealers and area teams.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a lot from working at Renault. I have gained an extensive amount of knowledge about the industry and what it entails to have a successful relationship between a dealer and customer. The key skill I have developed during my time is my confidence. I have become very confident in approaching a conversation and also being able to articulate my findings to the area teams and senior managers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Not much. I don't think this is the right programme for an apprentice joining Renault. The programme itself sets an impossible task to lead an improvement project within Renault. Especially, since like all other apprentices you are new to the role, so it takes a lot of time to get used to your role and information you gain. Therefore, its incredibly hard to expect an apprentice to come up with an improvement project when they have no idea how the organisation is run in the first place.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very poorly. The programme is not structured at all. We have a lesson once a month and that's it. There is no further communication between me and my mentor. Then we are set tasks expected it to be completed by the following month. This becomes extremely hard as you are still getting to grips of your daily task and your workload becomes heavy. There needs to be more communication between the apprentices and their teaching mentor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager and senior manager helps me out where they can. They have a wealth of knowledge in the industry, therefore it makes it a little easier to understand the requirements of the improvement project. My colleagues have further supported me by offering me their time and help in projects.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • None! Training providers do absolutely nothing other than our monthly lessons. In-between there is zero communication and help. The qualification is very difficult to understand and get a grasp off and there is very minimal communication to understand the tasks set. I've had to involve my line manager and senior to try understand the requirements of a few tasks. This shouldn't be the case as the teaching mentor should be assisting you where possible!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • None. The qualification has nothing to do with what you're working on in Renault. They don't focus on any practical skills you need. For instance, I am in data insight, but there are no tasks or skills set out that would benefit me in my role. I haven't learned anything practical from this qualification other than what it entails to create change in workplace - which is impossible for an apprentice to understand or perform - but this is what's expected from our final project!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of opportunity in Renault to get involved in extra-curricular activates. They encourage you to attend their many shows and events all over the country. Renault organises their occasional tea time, their annual summer party and many other social events for everyone to get involved. The only suggestion I have is creating an environment around the office for any special events eg: Womens World Cup, Olympics, etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Renault to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think anyone joining Renault will learn a lot about the industry and also the future project of Renault. You also have the opportunity to learn and interact with key stakeholders. Additionally, the working environment is really great. Everyone is helpful and empathic which makes it easier get along with your colleagues and understand the objectives set out by Renault.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Renault?
  • Learn Excel! Excel is commonly used to report, analyse and present data in Renault. Learning this would help out massively in understanding the data and makes reporting a lot quicker. Learn common industry jargons. There are a lot of jargons and acronyms used in Renault. Learning this will make it a lot easer to understand a conversation.
