  • Acting as employer's agent or contract administrator on a variety of building contracts. Advising Clients, inspecting building sites, chairing project meetings and issuing valuations at regular intervals.

  • How to administer and utilise building contracts throughout a project's lifecycle. How to diagnose various building defects and advise methods of remediation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The types of work remains varied on a day-to-day basis keeping it fresh. I develop a solid understanding of a multitude of topics within the construction industry so I never feel confined to a certain specialty. I greatly enjoy the variety, knowledge gained and flexibility of the role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Assistance with my education is frequently offered and provided. There are regular opportunities for CPD and training sessions. Areas of my knowledge that require development are identified in review meetings which occur at regular intervals.

  • Frequent support is provided and queries or concerns are welcomed with open arms. There is a strong drive company wide to achieve my goals.

  • The lectures are mostly informative and cover a variety of topics. Lecturers provide knowledge from their experience on the job. The university regularly offers support but can be slow to respond to communications at times.

  • Frequent examples are provided showing how the content we are taught is applied on the job. I am able to grow confidence on certain topics when discussing with other professionals. However, some topics apply less to the work I complete in my day-to-day job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Martin Arnold arrange regular company wide and team specific social activities and run a 5-a-side football team. The company attends large annual networking events.

  • Never be afraid to ask questions, they will always be treated with respect and allow you to develop your understanding. It shows eagerness to learn and you will be supported in doing so.
