  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I audit companies and different clients. There's a planning, fieldwork and completion stage. At each stage I have different tasks to complete. I check if the documents are right and accounts are correct. I ensure that every company fufills their obligations to meet the right accounting standards through my work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt how to develop my interpersonal and communication skills by speaking to clients and also with my teammates. I've learnt how accounts work and what each line in a financial statement refers to. I know the VAT laws and regulations and how to identify and correct errors in balance sheet.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it very much. The work is not too taxing but hours can be long and you must be hard working to do it. The clubs like football and badminton are great and a way to relax after you've finished your work/studies for exams. Overall, it is a good experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is quite well structured with the dates and initial timetable given when you start the programme at the welcome event. The apprenticeship however is a bit more fiddly and could do with more clarity, however this is cleared up with a meeting once you are already started your course.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer does not support the programme, it is run by another company that gives the lectures, textbooks and practise questions. It is BPP and has been a good experience so far. Mazars do give annual leave up to a certain number of days and there is study leave which you take for your exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from BPP but it can depend on your tutor. My first accounting teacher was very helpful and prompt in his replies. He was very knowledgeable and open to always giving his time to help. However, on my other exams, the tutor took longer to reply and respond to my queries.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me with a more holistic understanding of audit but doesn't specifically help with the details and day to day work. I can understand the key terms more and understand why I do the specific tasks that I do. It would help more in a senior role in knowing where to apply more emphasis on.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • This is the best thing about Mazars although could be improved with greater frequency. There is football and badminton which I attend when there aren't exams. However, it would be better if it was more than once a week and if equipment was provided than paying for the shuttles. Also there are other societies but it is tricky to know how frequent they meet. The societies timings are not always clear.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mazars LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The extra curricular is the strong point of Mazars but could be better. The culture of the company is quite good and have found many people to be friendly and open with helping you out. The buddy system to guide you is good and I have also got a nice line manager. In general, it is a very good company but with a high workload and no overtime, even if on weekends but I imagine this is an industry standard.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mazars LLP?
  • This is great company to work if you are hard working and are able to manage deadlines and long hours. The positives of the societies and culture is good but could be better. The pay is fine, the work laptop is good but with a short battery and the other facilities are good.
