  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of calculating the tax liability of our corporate clients, as well as providing tax advice to corporate clients based on their needs. In the day to day this involves some client relationship management, accounting software use, research on the latest tax legislation, and a whole lot of organisation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so much since starting here. I had no background in accountancy ( I studied psychology), I know feel like I know a lot. Same goes with Tax, it's crazy how much depth there is to it that we are not aware of before we start working in the field.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is challenging but it is also very rewarding. I feel I have been able to truly be challenged and put in a position where I am allowed to prove myself more every day. There is a good culture and we are allowed to work from home a few days a week.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of the programme is the only place where it could be better, we are not really aware of all the admin stuff we have to do and it ends up just falling on us. There is an early careers team that work very hard, but when considering all the little tasks you have to do to confirm menial things, some things slip through the net.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive loads, the employer is very understanding and does as much as they can to help you on the professional side of the formation. We have a certain amount of study days a year and they will be fine if we want to work just core hours when we have exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider is good when you get to actually go in class, if you are not in class, you are given recordings and told to learn everything on your own. When this is the case they have absolutely no idea what is going and honestly it's a faff.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It's essential, there really isn't much to say about this, learning the ropes of accountancy is necessary in order to so anything in the job. It would be really tough to do the job without that. I would say that the exams and training feel oriented towards auditors and not other lines of accountancy.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of social activities that I would say have made being here a breeze. When I first joined for example we were all set up in a hotel and had a big party, this allowed me to meet a lot of people across the country with who I work on a daily basis.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mazars LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they are a nice bunch, the job is challenging sometimes but rewarding, management is understanding, the work life balance is good. I feel like there is good opportunity for development. The work is genuinely interesting, you can get involved in so many different types of work which allows for development where you want to.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mazars LLP?
  • I think that overall Mazars is doing well in terms of training and early careers development. One area which could be improved is working with the tuition provider so we can actually have in class learning for most of the exams instead of only a couple out of all 16.
