  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves assisting Amazon Workforce Staffing (recruitment teams) and Agency Partners in Europe. My knowledge and experience with local hiring processes and recruitment systems functionality allows me to support other teams’ projects for advice and guidance for utilisation of the hiring platforms as well as best practice sharing. I perform process audits, corrections and user coaching to ensure compliance to legal and internal policy requirements; take part in new systems development, integration and testing; build reporting; deliver in-person and online training sessions and develop training resources in various formats; and directly support the system users with their queries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The apprenticeship gave me an opportunity to practice the knowledge I gained in the area of managing people. I do not have any direct reports, but because of the apprenticeship, I was assigned a project where I had to manage my peers during the software User Acceptance Testing activities. For similar reasons, I also had a chance to gain additional insights into finance in the context of my organisation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much. It definitely broadened my view of the organisation, giving me additional insights and points of view. It improved my understanding of how a large business operates and gave an opportunity to practice what I learned at the university in my day-to-day work. The learning gave me an opportunity to introduce multiple organisational improvements

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured very well, especially the academic piece. When it comes to the apprenticeship (CMI) area, perhaps it could use a little more structure. This is because we were given all the details at the beginning of the course and could not remember everything. Towards the end it was a lot of work to complete the portfolio of evidence and other bits that were not related to the academic degree. It would have been better if this piece was more formally structured (targets, deadlines etc.) in the middle. However, after providing MMU with a feedback, they already implemented improvements for the next cohorts.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been very supportive throughout the whole course. I was given an opportunity to work on projects that allowed me to practice all the knowledge in real life setting, which supported situated learning and aided the knowledge retention. I also had regular meetings with my manager and mentor, who were very engaged and ready to help with whatever I needed

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Manchester Metropolitan University staff were always ready to support and very flexible around our business requirements and schedules. The tutors as well as skills coaches are very approachable and helpful. They were supportive of and accommodating in difficult, non-standard situations. I could not have asked for more than was already offered

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The learning and qualification gained through the Manchester Metropolitan University supported my work experience by opening an opportunity to face new challenges in order to meet all the areas of the CMI standard. This accelerated my work experience, development of transferrable skills and promotion opportunities - both internally and externally to my organisation

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am not aware of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my workplace; however, this is not something that I have been interested in and I have not been exploring this topic. I know that there is an internal mentorship programme, which is not related to the apprenticeships and everyone is welcome to sign up.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for, providing stable employment, great benefits package and countless development opportunities. Operating globally, it allows to meet people from the whole world and potentially transferring to a different region or country. Also, it fosters diversity, equity and inclusion on all the levels and in all the areas.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
  • Prepare well for the competency based interview. Research the Leadership Principles, company vision, motto and other details; and aim to structure your answers around these using STAR technique. Be able to show what is peculiar about you as a candidate and potential employee. Remember the motto to 'Work hard, have fun, make history'.
