  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot. I look forward to my day to day work when on placement, and get along really well with my team. I always feel as though I am treated and respected as an apprentice.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We have sufficient time to focus on our NVQ, Degree and our Placements. We get 0.5 day a week on NVQ, 2 days a week of University when on term time and the rest is allocated for work on our placements. I think this works really well.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We get a Skills Coach assigned to us, who gives a lot of support when you need it. They are really helpful and support us on a daily basis. Our line managers for our placements are also very supportive, giving us sufficient work and helping with any queries.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • So far my experience with University of Central Lancashire hasn't been great. When asking for help on assignments or preparation for exams, I have often be met with no response or a brief, unhelpful reply. Some of the lecturers are quite unprofessional and not very helpful. However, I do enjoy the content on the course, despite teaching being poor at times.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though the modules I have done so far at UCLan have benefitted my role. It has given me more preparation when joining new placements, such as knowledge on the Software Lifecycle which was very helpful when given a task on reviewing all documentation for the lifecycle of the teams software. It has given me the extra knowledge needed to perform to a good standard in my role. As well as this, it has also given me an insight into other aspects of Software Engineering I haven't experienced yet in my role which I find very useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are lots of stretch assignments that I can get involved in that are available all throughout the year. Having taken part in multiple, they cover a wide range or activities such as networking events, assisting other teams, charity events and social activities. We are always given the opportunity to take part in any events going on at work and these are communicated with us very well.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • BAE has allowed me to develop many skills both personally and professionally. I have gained industry experience that has given me a huge insight into what my future career will look like, as well as given me the necessary skills to progress in my career beyond the apprenticeship. They are very supportive and provide the best facilities in ensuring we are on track and getting the most out of the apprenticeship.

  • If you are interested in applying, make sure this is definitely the career progression you want to do, as it can be hard work, but it is all worth it in the end when you are qualified and in a job you love. Make sure you have the attitude to want to make the most out of your career, as there are so many opportunities and great support for you to do so with an apprenticeship at BAE
