  • Currently at college full time in mechanical welding and electrical workshops learning the basics and valuable skills of different trades ready to go into the workplace. Also doing classroom work such as further maths and mechanical principles.

  • Developed my independence and confidence skills. Learnt a lot of engineering skills such as welding and electrical.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship course and what we are taught but sometimes the way it is taught in college isn’t the best and it can become stressful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The college could be more organised with what we need to know and having keeping us up to date with the work we need to complete. My workplace (BAE Systems) are more organised with meetings and our online sessions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Have check ins with early careers team and they are always available to talk to. Less support from skills coach.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • It depends, some areas there is more support compared to others . Workshop lessons are encouraging and often supportive but some of the classroom lessons can be very independent.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me more of an understanding for engineering and gives me a better understanding of the role I am going into. Teaches me valuable skills and why I will need them.

  • There are some events available to everyone.

  • Yes

  • Gives you an excellent opportunity to have an apprenticeship in something interesting and important while earning money and gaining valuable skills and experience. Such a range of jobs and opportunities within the business.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Have courage in yourself and be confident in your application and ensure everything you write is about yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions and talk to other people about their experiences and for advice.
