  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To complete check lists, write out floor plans, run shifts, run areas, make sure everyone in the building is safe to work as well as customers. Making sure customers are served in a reasonable time frame. I have to write out probationary reviews on all of our new starters and currently completing yearly reviews on crew.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt new skills. I have learnt all about management/leadership skills and which ones are better depending on the situation you are in. I have gain more knowledge and skills on how to deal with customers and keep them calm if they start to get loud and angry. I have also learn a lot more about the company and how it works as well as the systems they have in place to make the shift run smoothly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed it as I have gained more knowledge and understanding of what is expected of me, how to be a manager and how to deal with situations that I may have got someone else to deal with. It has built my confidence up. The online learning is easy to find and complete which also made me enjoy it as I could get on with it on my own.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme I am on is really structured. Once a week I am able to be off the floor or on the floor to do my apprenticeship and only my apprenticeship. Every month I have a face to face or a call with my apprenticeship assessor who is really helpful and is even there for me throughout the month if I need help and also gets back to me quickly with any questions I have.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive so much support from my training provider. He is there for me all the time, will answer any question I have and is always marking my work within 1/2 days of me submitting it. He will explain and go over the work I have not quite understood and will make sure I have before moving onto the next topic.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me perform better because it has given me really good knowledge and understanding of how to be a shift manager and deal with situations and how to adapt the way I am in situations. It has helped with knowing about customers and the business and how it runs so I can easily answer questions someone else may have.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extra-curricular activities I can attend which are; football events, social events (manager event/ crew event). We also take time to go and visit the RMHC and help them out. With this we are also learning where all the donations are going and how it is helping the families out.

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because you will feel part of the team. Everyone is friendly. You get the hours you want. You have time to be with family and friendly. You are not always on the same shift. Everyone is there for you. If you have had a bad shift by the end of it, you are walking out happy, not sad as everyone tries to bring up the team morale.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • The tips and advice I would give it to not be afraid, follow your dreams. Ask questions and put yourself out there to learn as much as you can. To take in all the information that is being given to you and to make sure you put what you have learnt into practice as it will help you.
