  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a shift leader and on a day-to-day basis this involves managing a team of people and ensuring to maintain standards of quality, service and cleanliness. It also involves having a high standard of food safety and ensuring that is maintained throughout the shift. Also involves cash handling.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills such as being able to adapt to people and their needs. Also I have developed my confidence. Communication is a skill I have developed massively especially listening and written forms of communication. I have also learnt how to be empathetic and the importance of this.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my programme. I have only recently started it but what I have done so far I think has been extremely good. I really enjoyed the life skills session I attended yesterday and looking forward to completing one of these each month of my apprenticeship. I also think my coach is great.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well organised and structured. I already have all of my monthly webinar and quarterly skills days dates for the entire apprenticeship which is extremely helpful. I also like how structured the plan is on Aptem and the organisation of the website. Very easy on the eye to look at.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer. This is by ensuring I get scheduled time to complete my digital learning, life skills sessions, teaching and learning sessions and monthly webinars/skills days. I also receive great support from my People Lead and People Manager as they are both completing an apprenticeship also.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has been very supportive so far as I only have very recently started this apprenticeship. I think my coach is absolutely excellent as she makes everything much more fun and interactive. She is also very available and is happy to answer any query or concern. Very happy with the support I receive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I have only recently started this apprenticeship I can say how I feel this will help me perform better in the future. I feel that this qualification is going to help me perform better in my job role as it is going to further my knowledge in some aspects but also help me fill any knowledge gaps that I have.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few extra curricular activities in to get involved at my work. These include our crew events which are held quarterly and can range from a quiz, an awards night, bowling or sports activities. We also offer the McCup which is 5 a side football which any gender can partake in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would offer McDonalds to a friend because I believe there is good progression opportunities available and the training provided is of a very high standard. It also teaches you many life skills such as being able to adapt to people’s different needs and being able to communicate with all kinds of people.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • My tips or advice to anyone applying to McDonalds would be to always be yourself and be confident in what you do. I would also say it is a very sociable environment with a variety of people with different views, opinions and beliefs so to be very mindful of that.
